"Of all this, I might have been mistress"

I could just imagine Elizabeth Bennett murmuring these words as she gazed out on the grounds of Pemberley... My love of Pride and Prejudice began when I was 11 years old and the BBC mini series was shown on ABC on a Sunday night. I quickly fell in love with this beautiful story (and, of course – Mr Darcy) and love any opportunity to re-watch the series or read the book.

So, it was the highlight of our brief visit in the Peaks District to visit Lyme Park aka Pemberley. In the words of Lizzie: I don’t think I’ve ever seen a place so happily situated. I like it, very well indeed…

The house and grounds were beautiful and opened up the world of Jane Austen’s classic story. No photos were allowed inside unfortunately, but I especially loved the library – they have removed the ropes and made the original library so you can sit on antique couches overlooking the lake and read on-site copies of Pride and Prejudice: my ideal way to spend a day! With none other of course, then my very own ‘Mr Darcy’ :-)
