Castles, castles and more castles

Here's a random fact I discovered just the other day: there are approximately 85 castles in the Netherlands. Considering some of these are only a short drive from where we live, Mitch, Sarah and I decided to take a country drive on Sunday and do some castle spotting which was topped off perfectly with a nice long pub lunch in Germany.

First stop was Ammersoyen castle which was built around 1350...

Next stop was Heeswijk castle (my favourite of the day) which dates back to the 11th century...

And our final stop of the day - the castle (and nearby windmill) just a couple of towns over in Wijchen...

3 castles down, 82 to go...
