There's just something about this bunny...

As a child, I vividly remember a paper runner that went around the top of my room which featured none other then this little white bunny - Miffy. Perhaps it's these fond memories that have founded my love for this little Dutch creation that is so popular all over the world.

Better known as Nijntje in Dutch, this simplistic yet so full of expression bunny was created by Dick Bruna in the city of Utrecht. Yesterday was my second visit to Utrecht (in the space of a week - I think I have a new favourite city in Holland, it is absolutely fascinating and so beautiful - more to come on that) and with my niece and nephews in tow, we took a visit to the Dick Bruna Huis. Included in your entry fee to the Central Museum (or free in my case - I am loving having a Museum Kaart!), the home of Miffy isn't particularly big but still well worth a visit.

The bottom level of the museum features a tall room lined with Nijntje books in many different languages - and of course, some little Miffy chairs and headphones where you can listen to the stories in 3 different languages. There is also a playroom with screens, trains to ride, a Miffy house, and lots of other activities to keep the little ones entertained. Upstairs has many of Dick Brunas early sketches, books and some of his other work - a very talented man.

The most fantastic thing about the Dick Bruna Huis is the layout - everything on the ground floor is on a child's level. As you walk through the bottom part of the museum, there is a short history of Dick Bruna and Miffy, all written at kids eye level and in story form.

In short, it was a small but great place to visit for any Miffy fans - I don't know who enjoyed themselves more, me or the kiddies... :-)

  2. I must confess - I've gone in twice by myself purely as a guilty pleasure! Let me know the next time you're in Utrecht and we can meet up !

  3. Hehe I don't blame you - it's a great place to visit! That'd be great to meet up - I'm definitely planning on going to Utrecht again (it's such a nice city!), I should still have your email from the interview awhile back, so I'll pop you an email when I'm heading your way! :-)
