A whirlwind trip!

One of the best things about living in Europe is not only how close everything is, but the abundance of budget airlines and flight sales - without these, I wouldn't see anywhere near as much as what we do. We are especially lucky because we have 2 cheapo airports very close by and so the choice of places to go for next to nothing is mind boggling.

One of my very best friends lives in the UK, about an hours train ride out of London and so I decided to make the most of yet another flight sale and head over to England this past weekend. Although I was gone for less then 48hrs (in which time we managed to circle the entire M25, an impressive feat), we managed to fit in half a day in London, a quick wander through Christmas markets, shopping (during which time I was introduced to Hobbs of London - a bad, bad idea as I couldn't quite justify the pretty dresses but we had fun trying them on anyway!), a tour of the school, a quick trip to Windsor (sighted Windsor Castle for the first time) and of course, meeting my friends lovely boyfriend.

Although it was a whirlwind trip across the channel, I have to say it felt a bit like respite - respite for my poor brain that is. It hit me that it had been 8 months since I was last in an English speaking country and it was unbelievably pleasant to spend 2 days out and about somewhere where people can understand what I am saying and me not having to constantly translate in my head. I love living in Europe and I wouldn't have it any other way, but I think I need to make more of a habit of popping across to the UK  - especially when the Vegemite supplies run low... :-)
