This could be my new favourite season: Spring in the Netherlands

I am absolutely loving this time of year in Holland. In fact, I think that spring could almost be my new favourite season. In Queensland, we really don't get 4 seasons - it's either hot, or it's slightly cooler (I will never complain about a Brisbane winter ever again. Ever. A Brisbane winter is sometimes not all that different to a Dutch summer!).

Having now been here a year, I've really enjoyed seeing the change in the country with each new season and although I am definitely a summer girl through and through, spring in Holland is absolutely gorgeous. We've had barely any rain, the days are much longer, the temperature is significantly warmer, the flowers are blooming anywhere & everywhere and more people are out and about enjoying the sunshine... In fact, the entire country just seems happier - I love it :-) Although the big spring events in the country such as the Keukenhof are spectacular, I must admit I'm equally appreciating the everyday things about this season.... So many little things just brighten up my day...

The constant range of fresh tulips available are never far from our dining room table...

Exploring local rommelmarkts... This massive one (more of a kofferbakmarkt - car boot sale) took place around a lake...

No rommelmarkt experience is complete without stopping for some frites & mayo along the way of course!

A welcome home gift from a friend... These little purple flowers bloomed not long after we returned home and I'm loving all the varieties of bulbs available at the supermarket...

Lazy Sunday picnics, watching barges pass by on our local 'beach'...

Being out & about on our trusty fiets again - even with my broken toe (more to come on that little adventure)...

Leisurely bike rides along the dijk - a few more weeks and it should be covered in bright yellow flowers if last year is anything to go by...

And my absolute favourite thing about this time of year - these gorgeous trees lining the streets of our little town. Pink and white, the leaves are now dropping but they are absolutely magnificant after months of dull grey wintry weather...

Spring - does it ever have to end???
