Simple

This little guy....

... helps me find joy in the simple things in life. The ordinary. The everyday. Like...

The excitement felt when claiming an empty cardboard box as your first 'cubby'...

The giggles that arise from things I wouldn't normally find all that hilarious - sitting behind a cardboard box....

or riding high on someones shoulders...

Smiles in the ordinary moments - like a routine dinner...

The art of waving...

Letting everyone know how pleased you are with your new skill...

The look of cheeky determination when thinking about something you want...

The joy of being super messy and not caring one little bit...

And the happiness resulting from a (fruit induced) sugar high!

When you become so busy with every day life, it's all too easy to just fly through life without taking a moment to appreciate the simple things. I love how this little man is helping me rediscover the world with more joy, through the eyes of a curious child. Isn't he just beautiful?

Splish splash!

Last weekend was a scorcher. I don't know what temperature it got up to during the day but at 11pm it was still almost 30deg out so it must have been pretty stinking hot during the day! We decided to have a quiet day at home and try to keep cool with a kiddie wading pool for Mr Oliver. The toy store was absolutely nuts that morning with everyone out buying slip 'n slides and pools but there was still something left that was just right for Mr Oliver.

He got into his new swimmers...

We filled the pool and kicked back with a cold drink, our feet in the pool and watched Ollie have fun in the water!

He loves trying new things and had a blast splish-splashing around!

The little guy has since started swimming lessons and he is loving it, he floats around the pool with me on his tummy practicing his kicking, grinning at everyone and happily shouting DADAD DAD DAD!!! Oh how I love my water baby :-)

Puppyhood

I've decided that having a mobile baby is a bit like having a puppy...

Two days ago I was cooking dinner only to have Mr Oliver appear at my feet, LICKING up any scraps of food I'd dropped off the floor...

Yesterday he found the shoe pile and I caught him happily gnawing on one of Mitch's sneakers...

And today....

Apparently chewing the corners of the couch is great fun!!! Ahhhh... The joys of puppyhood huh :-)

Sewing frenzy

I have been on a roll this week. I don't know why but all of a sudden I just had the urge to sew - and sew, sew, sew I did...

Naptime crafting is the best! What shall I make next???

Hello, summer

The weather has been a little bit funny the last couple of weeks. After a few patches of hot 30+deg weather, it went back to being colder then what Brisbane is currently experiencing in winter. And it's SUMMER here :-( But much to my delight, it feels like summer has finally arrived - I only hope it is here to stay.

Seeing as the beach is always too cold for swimming, a picnic at a local park seemed to be the perfect way to celebrate the beginning of the season...

Our little man had a blast! He just loves being outdoors.

Here's to many more picnics and outdoor activities this year... I just love summer!!!

Around here...

Blogging has really slipped my mind lately; it's been a tiring couple of weeks. But life goes on and it's busy as per usual with a gorgeous little boy keeping me on my toes - here's a little of what's been going while I've been absent...

Dummy weaning.... 9 months old and we are now DUMMY FREE!!! Woo hoo!!! After Mr Oliver started waking with the expectation that we would rush to his cot and pop the so called pacifier back in his mouth when he couldn't find it in the dark, it seemed to lose its purpose. So, the painful process of dummy weaning began. He only had it for naps by this point anyway but still, it feels like such a great achievement to have it gone! Although his nights still leave a lot to be desired, he is putting himself to sleep consistently for his naps & bedtime without even a tear - well done big boy!

Having our first USA visitors... I love having people come stay and this past week we had some extended family visit for a few days. It was so lovely catching up and doing some sightseeing together - including a visit to the JELLY BELLY factory, yum! Unfortunately it coincided with a work trip for Mitch so I think we're going to have to go back considering I'm not even the big Jelly Belly fan in our family!

Exploring some more of the city to our north... A picnic with friends in the beautiful Golden Gate park is a great way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon!

Oliver learning to drink out of a big boy cup... Sometimes though it's more appealing to use it for hand washing apparently...

Doing some sightseeing of our own... A mini road trip on a rainy long weekend down south to Monterey. Thanks to the weather, we spent the day indoors but this wasn't a bad thing - the Monterey aquarium is fantastic! Oliver particularly enjoyed the seahorses and jelly fish exhibits.

Sewing... Yup, I finally got brave enough to use the scary black box - both my Janome and I survived, nothing blew up and I got some gifts done for a triple baby shower.

And watching our baby boy develop in leaps and bounds, I love the curious little boy he is becoming but wonder where my tiny baby has gone?!?! Mr Oliver is pulling himself up, standing alone for a few seconds at a time, commando crawling backwards (and consequently ending up wedged under the couch most of the time), scooting on his bottom and has even learnt how to ride his little car - again, backwards. I wonder what direction he will go when he learns to walk???
