Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah

Bryce Canyon National Park was the second stop on our canyon country road trip. Until we consulted Google maps to see what was neighbouring the Grand Canyon (our main destination), I had never actually heard of Bryce Canyon. After talking to friends who had done a similar trip, we found out that it's possible to see it in a day trip from Zion so that's what we did - it was a huge day with an overtired little boy, but worth the drive.

Again, the contrast of the red rock, known here as 'hoodoos', and the white snow was magnificent.

Like Zion, we took a scenic drive before going on a hike around the snow packed rim of what's known as the 'amphitheatre' - the biggest collection of hoodoos in a confined space. It was spectacular, but...

Notice how my usually smiley boy is looking not so impressed? Our hike was sadly short lived as Mr Oliver had his cranky pants on this day :-( It was a beautiful & peaceful location - well, peaceful until we came along. Someone was NOT in the mood for being carried, he just wanted to walk and the edge of a canyon certainly isn't the place for a little kiddo to be toddling around! This is the thing about traveling with kids hey - some days they are brilliant, others they let you know they'd much rather be at home playing with their Christmas presents! Thankfully, he woke up in a much better mood for exploring the Grand Canyon the next day :-)

  1. Bryce is so gorgeous. My hubs and I went there about 6 years ago as we were moving from San Diego to Denver. Utah in general is a beautiful state!
