Zion National Park, Utah

We are slowly, slowly making our way through the mass of photos from our post Christmas canyon country road trip! Zion National Park in Utah was our first destination. Honestly, Zion had never been big on my travel wish list, yet it ended up being my favourite destination. It may not have had the same wow factor as the Grand Canyon, but it just felt like a place where I could clear my mind, enjoy the scenery (red rock + snow - gorgeous) and hike to my hearts content. Well, if we had more time - we only managed one short hike and it left me longing to go back and do more!

Once we had checked into our lodge in Springdale (which I'd highly recommend - it was brand new, gorgeous and our room had great views of the park), we took a scenic drive through the park while deciding what hike to do.

Although I'm all for getting off the beaten track, I have to say you can do a fair bit of Zion from the car - it's definitely not the same as hiking, but I was pleasantly surprised at how great the views were on our drive.

We were really short on time this trip, trying to cram roughly 30 hours of driving and three national parks into 6 short days so only had one afternoon for hiking here at Zion. We chose the most popular hike up to a lookout and although it was a bit hairy at times with ice (which is when I made Mitch take over the baby carrying!), it was an easy hours hike up to a lovely viewpoint.

It was a brief visit to a beautiful location - I'd love to go back when the weather is warmer and explore this area a little more...

  1. Hi Luana.
Stopping by from the bog hop to say hi. Love Zion, I live nearby (Ok not really) in Flagstaff AZ and going up to Utah is a favorite trip of ours. My family is getting ready to become expats ourselves as we will be moving to Thailand in about a month's time. I am your newest follower via bloglovin' and I look forward to reading more. ~Kim

  2. This is a really cool trip! I can't wait to see everywhere you went. We went to Denver this past summer and everyone was telling us to check out Utah. I think I may have to put that on my list after looking at your pics!

  4. Wow! Zion is very striking with the red rock and white snow! What a beautiful experience you must of had!

I've only gone on a marathon road trip once when I drove across the country. But I was in a hurry and didn't really stop to enjoy places like Zion. Next time, I definitely should!

    Cheers,

  6. Zion has been on my travel list for some time ... Since we're only one state away, it seems ridiculous that we haven't gone yet; now I'm aching to go even more!
