Autumn: I'm ready...

Somehow, it's September. The floppy hats and bright coloured bikinis are gone from the stores, instead I'm seeing jackets, skinny jeans and lots of Aztec print. Summer is on its way out and we're entering what still feels like a foreign season to me: autumn aka fall.

This past weekend we had a bit of a heatwave. It was around 30 degrees (celsius) for the past few days, temperatures that are warm even for the middle of summer here. Although I am a hot weather girl through and through, I find myself longing for autumn. Or fall. The American term is starting to rub off on me. Every time I log into Pinterest, my feed is filled with apple crumbles, cute boots, halloween costumes and of course, the infamous pumpkin spice latte. The latter being something which I am yet to try - naive question here, but is it like a regular latte? ie loaded with caffeine? I desperately want to try it but even the slightest sip of coffee makes me violently ill and I can't imagine going into caffeine induced shock in the middle of Starbucks with a toddler is going to be much fun.

Growing up in Queensland, Australia I never really experienced a true autumn. It meant a break from the horrific hot, humid weather, but it was still too warm to wear boots and drink apple cider. Living in Europe, we began to grasp what autumn really meant. Seeing the spectacular autumn leaves that comes with the changing of the season gave me an all new appreciation for this time of year. After moving to the USA last year, autumn took on a whole new meaning. Apple picking and pumpkin carving. Pumpkin patches and apple cider. Halloween. Thanksgiving. So many kid friendly activities, with lots of memories to be made.

I never used to get excited over this particular season, but this year I'm ready. I can't wait to dress the bump in tights & tunics. Dust off my boots and sew a scarf or two. I'm ready for apple picking & the smell of apple sauce simmering on the stove. I'm ready for colourful leaves, piled on the ground & just begging to be jumped on. I'm ready to try my hand at pumpkin pie cheesecake and drink warm apple cider. I'm ready to get lost in a corn maze. I'm even excited for the pumpkin patch... I've had my groupon for months!

Autumn: bring it on, this mama is ready for some fall fun!

  1. beautiful pictures! You should be able to order a decaf latte if you want to try the pumpkin version. Or maybe even ask for a half-caf?
