Weekend goodness

After a looooong week with a non sleeping toddler, Mitch got home on Thursday night and we were lucky enough to have a four day weekend ahead of us. Public holidays here are few and far between - not only are there just not as many as Australia, your employer gets to pick and choose which ones you can take. Mitch doesn't even get Easter off here, so this labor day weekend felt long overdue.

We kicked it off with some French pastries - thank you, husband. Flown half way around the globe for this pregnant mama and let me tell you, even though they were baked in another country many hours earlier, they were the best pastries I've had in a long time. Probably since we were last in France. And - there were even some macarons in that box...

Mitch took Friday off so I made the most of having the Dadda at home on a week day and went to the salon for a long overdue haircut. It feels like the most diappointing hair cut I've had in a long time. It's hard to tell in a photo, but she cut my fringe (translation: bangs) way too wide - part way across the side of my head. It's bulky and frustrating but I'm slowly getting used to it. There has been a bit of whining and a few tears. I have been feeling so frumpish and awful lately with the return of some nasty morning sickness and just wanted to feel pretty again *sigh*. I am loving being a brunette again though - just in time for fall!

Friday was also our first nappy free day... Eeek!!! Oliver has been successfully using the potty for awhile now (once or twice a day) but we hadn't pushed potty training. He wanted to wear big boy undies on Friday so we went with it... And he stayed dry!!!!! I think having a few older (potty trained) friends has really helped motivate him. He just wants to be one of the big kids! It's a work in progress, but let me just say - I am SO proud of this kid!!! And yes.. He's sporting some red heels with his fire truck shirt and blue undies there - the kid has style :-)

Saturday we headed into San Francisco for a picnic at a park I've heard a bit about in the mission district. It was so lovely!!! The children's playground had just been re-done and there is a huge grassy area (with city views) perfect for a picnic. I put a photo on Instagram when we arrived and funnily enough... A friend saw it and was on her way as well! Ah, the benefits of social media! It was a really lovely day out and I feel like we could make a habit of going back up there. We also discovered Bi-Rite market (awesome sandwiches) and the infamous Bi-Rite creamery - oh my. The salted caramel ice cream was well and truly worth the wait in line!!!!!

Sunday we began the mammoth task of cleaning out the garage... Baby #2 is gonna need a room so I'm booting myself out of my craft room. The plan is to turn the garage into my craft space - it's a work in progress, but we're getting there. We made a trip to Ikea to grab a rug and some things to brighten the space, but I really need to get thinking about what else I can do in there to make it feel more like a workspace and less like a spider filled garage.

And Monday - other then a blissful (and extremely rare) sleep in for all of us until almost 8am, we had a BBQ at a friends place and took Mr Oliver to his first ever movie! We had planned to do this on his birthday weekend but seeing as the poor kiddo spent the day before his party at the hospital, it didn't happen. It wasn't exactly a peaceful movie experience... There was a bit of dancing on the seat, kicking the chair in front of us, playing boo with the people behind us and he tried to feed my popcorn constantly, but all in all, we survived. I think we'll be waiting at least 6 months before trying again though, the movie alone is so long and by the time you get through the ads, he's about reached his attention limit. Sadly, all I got of his first movie experience was a very blurry shot, but in all honesty - I think he was more excited about the grass skirt clad snowman in the foyer then he was the movie...

How was your weekend?

  2. Wow, go Oliver on the potty training! So exciting! I haven't even attempted to begin that with Cruz, although he has been mentioning the potty lately, singing songs about poo on the potty! haha. After this baby comes and we're somewhat settled back into a normal routine then I'll work on it. And asking people like you for advice ;)
I think your hair looks great!! But I know that feeling of being so disappointed in your hair, especially when you're already feeling so yucky with pregnancy stuff. :( Been there, girl! I hope you feel better soon!! xo
