Hello, 2014!

I've always been a fan of new years. Not ringing in the new year exactly (or not in recent years anyway - small children make early bedtimes appealing for this mama), but just the idea of a fresh start. 2013 was a big year - I remember last NYE and the anticipation of the new year and what it might have in store. We were trying to add to our family, had exciting holidays planned and celebrations in store with our little guy turning 2.

But life isn't perfect and things don't always go according to plan. A friend quoted Shauna Niequist in her Christmas card and it's been going through my head ever since: "When life is sweet, say thank you and celebrate. And when life is bitter, say thank you and grow." I feel like that sums up the last year for our little family. 2013 definitely had its highs, but there were some low moments too. Some that really got me down for awhile there. But at the end of the day, life is good. We've all grown and learnt a lot over the last year - not just the toddler, but also the adults in our little family. We have a lot to be thankful for; God is good. I finally feel settled in our life here (yes, it's taken almost 2 years) and content with where we're at.

I'm truly looking forward to 2014. I feel like I blinked and 2013 was over; this year I want to savour the moments a little more. Towards the end of last year I felt compelled to slow down and I have to say, taking a step back from things and focusing more on my immediate family was the best thing I did all year. Things got a little crazy over the last month with our travels and all, but I did learn a lot - my little family is the most important thing in my life, and I can't wait to see what this new year has in store for us.

And the best part about it being 2014? I get to meet this little guy in less than 3 months! I'm still struggling to wrap my head around the fact that there will be a new little one in our life so soon, but underneath the nerves - I'm excited :-)

Happy New Year all - it's nice to have rejoined the blogging world after a refreshing break!
