The escape from winter

Although a Californian winter really isn't one to complain about, I still loved the idea of being able to escape it for almost 5 weeks to instead enjoy my favourite season in the land down under: Summer. Although Mitch had to work remotely for the majority of the time we spent in Australia, we made the most of every weekend and got out and about in the country we called home for many years, enjoying trips to the beach & river...

Watching Mr Oliver get to know his cousins...

Trying to cool down in any way possible...

Watching storms - it seems we hardly get rain, let alone electrical storms in Northern California so seeing a few summer thunderstorms were a real treat...

We even managed our first overnight getaway without the kiddo! We went back to Noosa, where we kicked off our honeymoon almost 10 years ago...

Leaving was bittersweet. I'm the youngest in a family of four girls and love the time spent together, especially during the festive season. It's noisy and chaotic, especially when you factor in all the grandkids, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. But, despite my love for summer, I was also ready to escape the extreme heat + humidity for the cooler temps over here. Third trimester + a Qld summer is not a comfortable combination!

As nice as it is to be home and settling back into somewhat of a routine, I'm already counting down the months until our next trip to Aussieland. Thankfully this time (due to a new little bubba who will need to be introduced to his extended family!) it won't be too long away :-)

The trips look wonderful. Going back to the place of your honeymoon should be really special I guess and you look beautiful on the 'selfie' (word of the year 2013 in the NL...)
When will the Dutchies be introduced to the little bubba? ;-) joking.
