One of my biggest worries about welcoming baby #2 into our family was how Oliver was going to cope. I know every oldest child has to get used to having a sibling, but the thought of my often rough & tough little guy with a baby around made me a little nervous.

But from the moment they first met, Oliver has just doted on his baby brother. He ran into the hospital room demanding to see baby Austin and couldn't wipe the big grin off his face as he looked at him and told us how little he was. His gentleness and loving fascination with Austin has truly made this mamas heart so happy. He still has his rough moments and I honestly think reality is still setting in (he asked me in the first week 'where's baby Austin's Mummy?'), but the initial transition has gone so much smoother than I could have imagined.

As a first time big brother, Oliver loves (a) telling us gleefully when baby Austin has vomited (b) describing the colour of baby Austin's poo (c) finding toys to show Austin and (d) demanding GIVE HIM TO ME. He just loves every opportunity to cuddle baby brother! Every morning without fail, he requests to hold him - the novelty lasts for all of about 30 seconds when he quickly discards him in favor of a more exciting activity, but the moment is sweet, however brief.

I hope that one day they can be the best of friends :-)

  1. How sweet! I'm so worried about how Eva will react to her baby brother.

  2. So cute! I was worried about my boys because there are 4 years between them, so our eldest had been alone for a bit. However, roll on 20 months and they adore each other. Your photos say it all, your boys will be fine, just look how adorable they are!

  3. Such precious pictures! The second & third pictures are my favorites!

  4. He is the sweetest!! Glad to hear that Oliver is adjusting well. It must be such a shock for them, but most seem to take it in stride (with the occasional melt-down, of course!).

  5. Yay Oliver!!! I'm so glad to hear that he's adjusting so wonderfully. It is the sweetest thing to see how fascinated these little ones can be with babies. Declan loves on Sybil all the time too (and also mentions the poop of course) and holds out his hands and says "hold, hold." Melts your heart. And you captured the feeling in the pictures beautifully. <3

Thanks for reading, your comments make my day :-)
