The desert oasis

A couple of weeks ago, we took our first big roadtrip & holiday as a family of four down to southern California. Despite the fact that the desert is pretty stinkin' hot in June, we decided to kick off our holiday in Palm Springs.

We stayed at Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort because it had the best kid friendly swimming facilities. With a splash pad, waterslides, lazy river, beach & pools, Mr Oliver was in water park heaven.

Baby Austin wasn't so keen on Splashtopia however. Despite the hot temperatures out, the water was pretty cold so we could hardly dip his toes in before he'd start screaming. He and I spent a lot of time kicking back in the shade with a cold drink and a book while Mitch & Ollie floated around the lazy river. Yup, it was a tough holiday... ;-)

Given the heat, we hadn't planned to even leave the resort while we were in Palm Springs except for one thing: the aerial tramway. It's the largest rotating tramcar in the world and while it did make me feel a little queasy heading up the mountain, the views were worth it...

... as was the change in temperature! 21 degrees (celsius) up the top compared to 40 degrees down the bottom.

Palm Springs was a fun little getaway. It's a little bit of a drive, but I think we'll definitely head back down here again when we want to escape the cool weather up north.
