New York, New York - Times Square crazy

Christmas in New York City sounded magical when we booked our trip. It definitely was a pretty special place to spend the holidays (FAO Schwarz, anyone? I was in toy store HEAVEN!) and finally making it over there ticked a box on the travel wish list, but our first taste of the city was pure madness. After what felt like a never ending day in travel - up at 3am pacific time to make our early morning flight, but still not arriving in the big apple until after dark - we walked a few blocks from the train station to discover ourselves in the midst of Times Square.

Right where our hotel was.

It's definitely a must see place - but once. In a lifetime. Just once. The crowds actually weren't too bad here when Mitch took these photos on our first night (they truly don't do the madhouse of Times Square justice); it seemed to get progressively worse each day and by our last night, it was a total madhouse. And it seemed we were battling it multiple times a day.

Just like we'll never again pick up a hire car in central Paris without a GPS, I'll never stay on Times Square ever again. It definitely had its perks - being walking distance to so many key tourist sights, but still - it felt like a rookie travel mistake. Ah, well. You live & learn, I guess.

More New York to come!
