Two months {Anneke Claire}

I'm sure I'll say this every month until she's graduated high school but... SLOW DOWN TIME!!! My baby girl is 2 months old already and while I'm loving seeing her become so much more alert and smiley, it's also bittersweet moving out of that sleepy, snuggly newborn phase.

Stats...
At 2 months old, Miss Anneke is in size 2 nappies and 6 month/00 clothing. She weighs 13lbs 10.5oz (6.2kg). She's our big growing girl!

Milestones...
She's freakishly strong. She lifts her head and shoulders off my lap when she's laying there, she can support her own head, she bears weight on her legs. She's smiling to no end and always wakes up so happy.

Sleeping...
Our girl is either a brilliant sleeper, or... She's not. She's had a few crazy days (which I will put down to growth spurts) where she's napped maybe an hour total in a 12-14 hour period. No amount of rocking, baby wearing, breastfeeding, stroller pushing or driving in the car gets her to sleep when she's like this, believe me. It's exhausting. However - for the most part, she sleeps really well. Most nights she sleeps 7pm-3/4/5am and back to sleep until 7 or 8am. It's really just one brief wake up a night for a nappy change and quick feed, which is fantastic. She's starting to fall into a little bit of a nap routine, she tends to take one short nap in the morning of around an hour, sometimes 1.5 hours and then a really long nap of 3-4 hours in the afternoon followed by a tiny catnap at dinnertime. I wouldn't say we're on a schedule or anything, she's the third child and just has to go with the flow but she seems to be gradually falling into her own routine. She's started putting herself to sleep in recent weeks, although I feel a little strange/guilty admitting that. We don't let her cry it out - a crying infant needs cuddles in my opinion, but if I put her in her cot drowsy and she's got a full tummy and dry nappy, she just puts herself to sleep. It takes anywhere between 15-30mins but she does it and I'm just rolling with it even though I feel a little odd not rocking my girl to sleep.

Eating...
Every 2 hours? Sometimes 3. Girl likes her mama milk, although she's been struggling a bit lately with a strong flow. Breastfeeding can end up being a messy business.

Best moment...
Moments really - every time I see her big brothers snuggling up to her, talking to her gently and sweetly, telling her she's cute, squealing over her smiles... They are truly obsessed with Anneke and it makes this mamas heart so happy. The novelty of a baby sister has not worn off (yet).

Worst moment...
The day she napped for under an hour total between 7am-9pm. I had a killer headache to begin with and it was just plain old exhausting. I've never been so happy to see a sleeping baby in my life that night. Thankfully she made up for it and slept until 5am, but still.

Loves...
Anneke is still a huge fan of bathtime, it's guaranteed smiles. She also loves her milk, Daddy cuddles on the couch every night and stretching out on a blanket in the backyard. She just chatters away and smiles up at the sky for ages.

Dislikes...
Getting out of the bath. Getting dressed (unfortunately - we like to play dress ups a lot around here. Girl clothes are so fun!).

Happy 2 months our sweet Anneke. There's a reason why your nickname is pretty girl - you are just a gorgeous, doll like little sweetheart and we just all love you so. I didn't understand just how precious it is to have a daughter until you joined our family, you are just the perfect (final ;-) ) addition to our little family.

  1. I love love love the photis!! Amazing how fast she's gaining weight... and sorry but what a good sleeper... Arlin isn't doing any better at 15 months (and has never been doing any better). And the milk mess... o yes that brings back memories ;-). Please keep posting!! Have a nice sunny day!
